Urban Fox has secured a contract with Hertfordshire County Council to deliver a significant expansion of on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Broxbourne, East Herts and Stevenage. This will be financed by Urban Fox with a funding contribution from the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme.

The county has been divided into areas to help support a smooth rollout and create clear, manageable networks for each chargepoint operator. Urban Fox are one of three providers who will be delivering chargepoints within Hertfordshire.

As part of the programme, Urban Fox will install over 1,200 EV charging sockets. The rollout will focus on residential areas, particularly where off-street parking is limited, helping ensure more residents can conveniently access EV charging close to home. The rollout is planned to begin in late autumn 2026.

This latest contract represents a further milestone in Urban Fox’s continued growth in supporting local authorities to expand accessible on-street EV charging. It reflects increasing confidence in the company’s ability to deliver reliable, community-focused infrastructure at scale.

The project supports Hertfordshire County Council’s wider ambitions to encourage sustainable travel, reduce transport emissions and prepare for increasing EV adoption.
Urban Fox will work closely with the council and local stakeholders to ensure chargepoints are installed in suitable, community-focused locations, with careful consideration given to street environments and accessibility.

Oli Freeling-Wilkinson, CEO of Urban Fox, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Hertfordshire County Council on this important programme. Expanding access to on-street charging is essential to ensuring the transition to electric vehicles is practical and inclusive for residents.

This rollout will bring reliable, near-home charging to communities across Hertfordshire, and we’re proud to support the county’s sustainability ambitions through high-quality, well-planned infrastructure.”

Executive Director of Growth and Environment, Mark Doran said that “expanding access to on-street EV charging is a key step in supporting residents to make the switch to electric vehicles. We know that lack of access to home charging can be a barrier for many people, particularly those without driveways.

This programme will help address that by providing reliable, convenient charging options closer to where people live. It also supports our commitment to growing a greener Hertfordshire by reducing emissions and enabling more sustainable journeys across the county”.

Enterprise Car Club supplied the fully electric vehicle at a launch event in Stevenage today.

Further details on locations and delivery timelines will be shared as the programme progresses.
